The aim of the General Gymnastics sessions is to produce quality gymnastics that any child irrespective of ability can enjoy. We have classes for boys and girls. A typical class will include vault, bars, beam, floor skills, tumble and trampette. During each class the emphasis will be on developing gymnastic skills at a rate suitable to the individual child, whilst having fun in a safe & friendly environment.
Recreational gymnastics are non-competitive classes available in General Gymnastics and Tumbling. General gymnastics classes consist of warm up, floor skills, use of bars, beam and vault, and a cool down.
Tumbling classes focus on the specific skills of these disciplines when these classes are available.
Tumbling is a truly breath taking type of gymnastics and is characterised by the complex, swift and rhythmical succession of acrobatic bounding from hands to feet, feet to hands or even feet directly back onto feet. A tumbling pass may be over in a matter of seconds and is performed on a tumbling track.
A gymnast performs a tumbling pass, which sees them gain speed and power by running along a track and performing a series of elements. A typical tumbling competition will include the gymnast completing either two or three tumbling passes. Depending of the level of competition these passes can be up to eight elements long and contain a combination of flics, whips and somersaults, straight or twisting. World-class tumblers perform no less than two double somersaults in one run, the best of them three, finishing with a triple or even a quadruple somersault.
The children work towards the British Gymnastics proficiency badges, starting at Badge 8 working through the skill levels to reach Badge 1.
